Georgia Power to Upgrade Streetlights to LEDs and Slashes Energy Bill for Athens-Clarke County

Georgia Power is working with the Athens-Clarke County Transportation and Public Works Department to convert approximately 4,300 roadway lights in Athens-Clarke County from high-pressure sodium (HPS) to light-emitting diode (LED) technology. The project began the week of May 9 and is expected to take 6-8 weeks to complete. It involves no capital cost to Athens-Clarke County.

Intelligent Light from Osram Slashes 65% Energy Bill for Volkswagen Parking Garage

One of the largest and most modern logistics centres in Europe is located at Baunatal near Kassel in Germany – the original parts centre for Volkswagen. More than 450,000 VW original components are dispatched from the location to seven domestic sales centres and 83 countries. As part of the "Think Blue. Factory." campaign, Volkswagen also aimed to set standards in terms of energy saving, and as a consequence it was decided to sustainably upgrade the company’s employee car park with 500 parking lots. Energy savings of 65% are now achieved with the new lighting installation from Osram based on innovative LED luminaires and intelligent light control. Thanks to electricity cost savings, the investment is also paid back within three years.

Bellingham Halves Streetlight Energy Bill Following LED Upgrade

Bellingham is the largest city in Whatcom County in the State of Washington, U.S. The streets of the city started to look brighter from Dec. 7, 2015, following the ongoing LED streetlights conversion. Crews from Northwest Edison, an energy company, started switching the city’s aging high- pressure sodium lamps to LEDs, reported the Bellingham Herald.

[Update] Indian State to Cut Half of its Energy Bill with LED Streetlights

Authorities of Panaji, the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district, decided to switch all conventional bulbs to LED ones so as to cut 50% of their streetlights bill. The conversion will cost about INR 923 million (US $13.9 million). The project will be executed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) within six months, reported the Times of India.
