China’s capital Beijing has installed 28 streetlights enhanced with advanced graphene material technology in Tongzhou District, which can slash energy consumption by 20% to 30% compared to current lamps on the market, reported China Daily.

In 2012, EVERLIGHT filed a declaratory judgment action of invalidity and non-infringement against Nichia’s U.S. Patent Nos. 5,998,925 and 7,531,960 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. These two patents are directed to YAG phosphors being used in LEDs and phosphor concentration. The jury on April 22, 2015 has found all the asserted patent claims invalid. And the court has rejected Nichia’s motions for a new trial and confirmed the jury finding on January 19, 2016. 

The UN and partners announced the opening of the Global Efficient Lighting Centre (GELC) in Beijing, China. Everlight Electronics reportedly planed to invest Beijing to expand its market share in China's LED market.

As the promotion of the 2009 "Beijing City Green Light Project" draws to a close, Beijing’s public institutions will gradually realize the vision of “Green Lighting” in the city. In accordance with the set requirements, Beijing City’s public institutions will be advocating the adoption of 1.85 million high-efficiency lights in 2009, and it is mandatory that Beijing municipal government institutions purchase and recycle 90% of the fluorescent lights that are replaced by the energy-efficient ones.

It’s reported that the sales of Taiwan's LED makers rose 16.1 percent in the first half of this year from the same period a year earlier. This is helped by the Beijing Olympics and higher energy prices that are encouraging the use of lower-cost lighting.
