Welland's CRS Electronics will see its LED exterior lights showcased at Banff Park Museum. Completed just before the Olympic Torch Relay passed through Banff, the 73 exterior lights enhance security around the museum and highlight the exterior of the recently restored wood structure. The combined electricity consumed by all 73 light-emitting diodes is less than that used by a single 400-watt incandescent light bulb.

The City of Welland, Ontario, Canada, has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for switching all the street lighting in the city to LEDs.
This is a first in the preparation of municipal, provincial or state RFPs or tenders in Canada that calls specifically for LED lighting.
The RFP and tender calls for the replacement of 5903 street lights and an on-hand inventory of 97, making this a 6000-unit project over 3 years. The closing date is Monday July 6. Further details can be found on the City of Welland website.

Welland, Canada has recently approved the resolutions to require developers to use LED fixtures in new streetlight installations, and is looking at the replacement of existing fixtures with LEDs.
Located in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada, Welland became an LED City in September 2008, and is leading the way in new initiatives.

Recently, Cree, Inc., a market leader in LED lighting, and the City of Welland, Ontario, Canada, announced that Welland has joined the LED City initiative, an international program that promotes the deployment of energy-efficient LED lighting. The city has converted many of its lighting applications to LEDs, including streetlights and traffic signals, and has additional projects underway. Welland has also amended its municipal standards to facilitate LED lighting for all future streetlight installations.
