Signify has announced the launch of Interact Pro, a multi-tasking, smart lighting system and software developed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The lighting company has been extending its business in connected lighting systems, software and services and has released IoT-ready products to new customer segments.

Two doctoral students and several research scientists from the Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute attended last month’s SPIE Optics + Photonics conference to present research on new innovative technologies and other topics of interest to the solid-state lighting industry. Toshiba Corporation announced last week in Milan that it will start to launch its new lighting business in Europe and the U.S.  By this summer, the company will set up a marketing base for new lighting business operations in the U.K., Germany and the United States, joining a French operation established earlier this month, to launch a wide range of high efficient lighting products such as LED lamps. The company also targets to further expand the business to India, Russia, Brazil, the Middle East and China in this fiscal year.

Recently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a safety alert for operators (SAFO) called “Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Advisory Pertaining to Certain Red Color LEDs.” This SAFO advises operators using NVGs that certain LED lighting systems fall outside the combined visible and near-infrared spectrum of NVGs, and thus will not be visible to them.

A new LED lighting system has been selected by UK supermarket giant Sainsbury’s to light the interior of its freezer cabinets across 350 stores. In all, some 15,000 pieces of Philips Affinium LED freezer lighting modules have been installed, each containing Luxeon LEDs from Philips Lumileds.
