Taiwan's LED chip maker Huga cooperates with Epistar

Taiwan's LED chip maker Huga's largest shareholder Epistar (with a 46% equity interest) has taken three seats on Huga board. According to Huga, it will expand its MOCVD equipment to a total of 60 sets at the end of 2010 and to 80 sets in 2011, and will adjust TV backlighting products to 10% of its total shipments at the end of the year and over 20% in 2011. High-brightness LED products currently represent 70-80% of Huga's revenues.

Taiwan Huga Optotech Loaned NT$ 2 bn. from six banks to expanse its LED capacity

Taiwan LED maker Huga Optotech has signed a NT$ 2 bn. syndication loan agreement with Hua Nan Commercial Bank. Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Industrial Bank of Taiwan, Mega International Commercial Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, and The Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, also financed the deal.

Epistar acquires a nearly 48% stake of Huga Optotech

Taiwan No.1 LED chipmakers Epistar Inc. pay over NT$8.6 billion for a 47.88% stake in Huga Optotech Inc to boost strength of Taiwan’s LED industry. Epistar will acquire the Huga shareholding through stock swap, with an Epistar share for 2.23 Huga shares, and cash pay combined.

HUGA Boosts BLU LED Capacity with Six More AIXTRON MOCVD Tools

AIXTRON AG announced today that in the second quarter 2009 HUGA Co., Ltd placed an order for six AIX 2800G4 HT MOCVD reactors in the 42x2 inch configuration. They will be delivered in the fourth quarter 2009 and installed at the company's state of the art production facility in the Taichung Science Park, Taiwan.

Inventec Acquires 4.9% Stake in Huga Optotech

Taiwan’s Inventec Corp., the world’s fourth-largest notebook PC maker, has spent NT$540 million (US$16.61 million at US$1: NT$32.5) to buy a 4.9% stake in the island’s leading LED maker Huga Optotech Inc., according to Taiwan Economic News.

Both upstream and downstream LED makers launched capacity expansion plans, LEDinside observed

According to survey of the industry research institute LEDinside, Taiwan's listed LED makers recorded total revenue of NT 5.982 billion in July 2009, a 5.8% growth from NT 5.652 billion in June 2009 and a 3.8% growth YoY. LED chip makers' total revenues in July gained 6.9% to NT 2.621 billion while LED packagers posted NT 3.361 billion, 5.1% growth MoM.

The LED patent infringement lawsuit between Epistar and Huga

It’s reported that Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against competitor Huga Optotech, seeking NT$200 million. Epistar filed the lawsuit with Taiwan's intellectual property court, claiming that Huga's blue and green LED products infringe on its patent.
