Veeco Awarded $4M in R&D Matching Funds from DOE Solid State Lighting Manufacturing Grant

Start-up company WhiteOptics LLC receives $1.5 million from DOE to develop LED

The company WhiteOptics LLC in Newark has received $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop new technology: a highly reflective material that will improve efficiency, lifetime and cost for LED light fixtures. This funding will create and-or save approximately five jobs immediately and has the potential to create 100 direct manufacturing jobs and hundreds of downstream installation-related jobs, depending on  the degree of commercialization success.

Lewiston installs LED streetlights as part of a demonstration project

To reduce energy consumption and save money, Lewiston has installed five LED streetlights as part of a demonstration project. The streetlights are on loan to the city. Mike McCrery, the traffic services manager for the city of Lewiston, says after 60 days the five LED streetlights will come down and 50 new ones will be put up on 17th Street. Residents will be able to see how the new streetlights compare to regular streetlights that are nearby.”
