The 2015 CLEO Conference and Exposition concluded today with 4,400 attendees, 226 exhibitors and 1380 presentations from around the world. Conference and exhibition programming provided attendees with valuable insights into a broad range of topics such as optical microscopy for brain imaging, three dimensional printing and single-photon nonlinear optics. CLEO 2015 took place 10-15 May at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, USA.

San Jose, the third largest city in California, U.S. has started installing new LED streetlights throughout December, according to a report by San Jose Mercury News.

Xicato announced that it has relocated its San Jose headquarters to accommodate a new manufacturing line for the company’s next generation of products. The new 24 thousand-square-foot space is more than double the size of Xicato’s previous San Jose facility. San Jose, Calif., plans to convert 125 lights in the city’s Hillview North neighborhood by June 2009 in its second LED streetlight pilot project. The new streetlights will use energy efficient LED lamps equipped with the locally based Echelon’s power line networking technology and segment controllers. The LED Streetlights connected with the Echelon’s intelligent controls for smart networks can help reduce energy and maintenance costs while improving light quality, decreasing light pollution and providing increased safety, according to the company.

An "adaptive lighting" concept is now being tested in San Jose, Calif., in the heart of Silicon Valley. In this test, streets can be made brighter, darker or even be illuminated with flashing strobes upon command.

Last year in San Jose, California, the local government had turned off streetlights in some district to meet the environmental goals, while this year, more LED lamps could be installed in the next few months to get the same result. To reach Mayor Chuck Reed's Green Vision aim of powering the city's 62,000 streetlights with renewable energy, the city’s Transportation and Environment Committee will come up with some steps on April 6.
