Recently, Seoul, the capital of South Korean, has announced the plan to install more LED lighting in public places, and encourage private sectors to further expand the scope of installation. All municipal government offices and public places including subway stations and streets are planned to use LED lighting in 2018. This plan aims to reduce energy consumption and aid the LED lighting industry.

Samsung is reported to stop production of CCFL LCD TV, which uses fluorescent lamp as the TV backlight, and will only manufacture LED TV. Since it entering the market in 2009, LED TV has been the high-end choice in the TV market, but its high cost prevents its popularity from further increasing. The South Korean steel industry giant POSCO announced to participate in the LED Industry. The new venture's headquarters will be in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
The new company is comprise of POSCO ICT (63.3 percent), the IT and engineering arm of POSCO steel, POSCO Steel (16.7-percent) and Seoul Semiconductor (20 percent).And POSCO ICT CEO Hur Nam-suk will have leadership responsibility for the venture.
