Osram has strengthened its service business in the U.S. and acquired the business operations of Houston, Texas-based Maneri-Agraz Enterprises, a national provider of energy-efficient lighting solutions in commercial and industrial facilities. The profitable company has annual revenue in the low double-digit millions (based on U.S. dollars). Maneri-Agraz’s client base includes large, well-known food and beverage manufacturing and distribution facilities, as well as technology companies and aerospace facilities, among others. Maneri-Agraz will be part of Osram’s service division Sylvania Lighting Solutions (SLS), which is a segment of Osram’s Lighting Solutions business unit. 

Designed as a family of architectural slim-line recessed and pendant mounted luminaires common in quality, efficiency and aperture size, Amerlux introduces the Linea 1.5" pendant and the Gruv 1.5" recessed family of LED linear luminaires that can transition nicely from walls to ceiling, to open ceiling applications, with an equally high level of aesthetics and performance. These miniature LED linear luminaires interact from multiple mounting applications in offices, conference rooms, classrooms and other institutional and commercial interiors.

The low-profile rectangular shape of the new Synios E4014 from Osram Opto Semiconductors enables the light from this LED to be injected into light guides so that a wide range of design ideas can turned into reality. These mid-power light emitting diodes also have an impressively robust plastic package, a particularly uniform distribution of light and an excellent price performance ratio. The LEDs are intended primarily for visually enhancing "white goods" and for lighting systems in vehicles and displays.

LEDs are tooted as having long lifespans, but as more traditional light sources are being switched out for SSL, manufacturers are realizing that long lifespans are not good for a sustainable business model. Therefore, companies such as Philips and Osram are looking into long-term installation contracts. Philips has secured such a contract with Washington’s transit authority to upgrade around 13,000 fixtures in parking lots, according to a recent Bloomberg report.
