Guangdong Rongwen Energy Technology Group (Rongwen) and Silver Spring Networks announced their selection to connect smart LED street lights in Guangzhou, China at Smart City Expo World Congress. 

At Smart Cities Week, Silver Spring Networks, Inc. and Power Over Energy unveiled the findings from their Smart Cities Consumer Research Study, conducted with the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability Advanced Grid Research. More than 500 U.S. consumers took part in the online study.Respondents were representative of the U.S. Census, ranging from ages 18 to 65+ (52% female, 48% male), and from all areas of the country including New England, Mid Atlantic, Mountain, Pacific, South East, and various areas of the central U.S. A majority of respondents (47%) lived in cities with populations of more than 100,000, 14% of which currently reside in major metropolitan areas of more than one million people.

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. on 6th Sep. announced a new agreement with Genus Power Infrastructures Ltd., a smart meter provider in India and Southeast Asia. Under the agreement, Genus will integrate Silver Spring’s standards-based IPv6 network interface cards (NICs) into its single-phase and three-phase smart electric meters. Silver Spring’s technology is based on Wi-SUN® standards-based mesh, built on IEEE 802.15.4g

Silver Spring Networks announced that it will deploy its Starfish™ platform-as-a-service (PaaS) across the City of London and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. This adds to the previously announced London deployment in the City of Westminster. 

Silver Spring Networks announced it has agreed to work with ESB Telecoms Ltd to develop a national Internet of Things (IoT) network across Ireland. ESB Telecoms Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of ESB and operates a national open access wholesale telecommunications network throughout Ireland.

Ameresco, Inc., a leading energy efficiency and renewable energy company, today announced it has contracted with the City of Chicago for the City’s comprehensive Smart Street Lighting Project to modernize its infrastructure. Working with Silver Spring Networks, Inc., a leading networking platform and solutions provider for the Internet of Important ThingsTM, the project is believed to be the largest city-led wireless smart street light program in the U.S., and will connect more than 250,000 street light fixtures across Chicago.

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. today announced its first international utility-led, country-wide smart street light control program with Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS). JPS is an integrated electric utility company and the sole distributor of electricity in Jamaica serving over 600,000 customers. JPS will extend its existing Silver Spring IPv6 platform to connect up to 110,000 smart LED street lights in population centers around the island including Kingston, Spanish Town, Negril, and Falmouth. Silver Spring’s Streetlight.Vision Central Management System (CMS) will also be deployed for JPS through a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model to control and manage the networked street lights.

Silver Spring Networks announced a new go-to-market partner, Rongwen, for its rapidly growing smart cities and smart street lighting business. Rongwen is one of the largest smart LED street light providers and operators in China, and has deployed more than 250,000 controllable LED street lights in its home country under the Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) business model. 

Today at Light + Building, the world’s leading trade show for lighting and building services technology, Samsung Electronics and Silver Spring Networks announced a partnership to develop a networked LED street lights solution, helping to cut costs and simplify connected lighting componentry for luminaire manufacturers.  This will accelerate the road to smart cities for municipalities, utilities, transportation departments and other outdoor lighting network operators.  

Silver Spring Networks, a networking leader for the Internet of Things (IoT), announced that it is developing a networked LED street lighting solution that will interoperate with the Philips Advance Xitanium SR driver for outdoor lighting, developed by Philips Lighting, a Royal Philips company and global leader in lighting. Today at the IES Street & Area Lighting Conference, North America’s largest conference dedicated to improving the outdoor lighting business of electric utilities and energy service providers, Acuity Brands, through its subsidiary Acuity Brands Lighting, and Silver Spring Networks announced an agreement to jointly develop an intelligent lighting platform for utilities, cities, and large campus operators which will allow them to upgrade their aging lighting infrastructure and establish a path to additional smart city applications and services.

LED Roadway Lighting and its partner Silver Spring Networks, Inc., today announced they have been selected by Glasgow City Council to deliver the Intelligent Street Lighting requirements for their innovative Future City Demonstrator initiative. The project will leverage LED street lighting from LED Roadway Lighting's NXT range of luminaires and Silver Spring's IPv6-based smart city networking platform to integrate LED street lights, traffic cameras, and sensors into two adaptive lighting systems in the city center and along the River Clyde's "Clyde Walkway." The adaptive lighting systems will monitor vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic and dynamically dim and increase illumination accordingly, increasing energy efficiency, urban sustainability and improving citizen safety.

Today, at the American Public Power Association’s National Conference & Public Power Expo, Silver Spring Networks, Inc. extended its Speed-to-Value smart infrastructure program to municipal utilities. Silver Spring also announced that it is delivering its award-winning smart street light solution to help smaller municipalities leverage advanced smart city technology to lower operations and management costs, reduce energy usage, and improve the reliability of their public lighting infrastructure.

Silver Spring Networks, Inc., a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, announced today it has been selected to deliver the networking platform for a citywide intelligent street lights project in Copenhagen, Denmark. Under a new partnership with Citelum, the global leader in lighting, traffic management, and other urban electrical systems, Silver Spring is expected to begin networking 20,000 street lights in Copenhagen in 2014.
