Philips Lighting, a global leader in Lighting, has been chosen as a key partner to provide the urban lighting infrastructure required to bring Eindhoven’s vision of a smart and sustainable city to life. The Dutch city of Eindhoven will draw on the expertise of the government, academia and businesses to address the city’s needs and has formed a partnership with the Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e), Philips Lighting and Heijmans, a Dutch company that specializes in developing roads infrastructure, civil engineering and non-residential buildings. This so-called “Quadruple Helix” of partners will work together for a period of 15 years to develop innovations that respond to the residents’ aspirations.

Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, has opened its state-of-the-art GrowWise Center at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Research being conducted by Philips will provide tailor-made LED light growth recipes making it possible for producers to increase their yields and grow tasty and healthy food indoors, all year round.

Philips recently showcased an interactive singing light Aura at GLOW, a week-long festival of light art that took place in Eindhoven, according to a company blog entry on Exposure.

The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path will be opened in Eindhoven on 12 November. The opening of this unique cycle path marks the start of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year. The cycle path is unique. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s work, it combines innovation and design with cultural heritage and tourism. The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path is being constructed by Heijmans from a design by Daan Roosegaarde and forms part of the Van Gogh cycle route in Brabant.

The Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM), which is part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and Philips, the global leader in lighting, will renew their joint research program into efficient LED light sources with a new continuous Industrial Partnership Program (IPP). Both parties signed the new agreement on Tuesday January 21, 2014 and are looking forward to the continued collaboration. More details about the research program will follow in due course.

The Eindhoven region will receive the first innovative bicycle path in the Netherlands. The 600 meters long bicycle path runs where Vincent van Gogh lived from 1883 to 1885 and will have a unique design comprising thousands of sparkling stones designed by artist Daan Roosegaarde. The bicycle path will be designed by Studio Roosegaarde and Heijmans and is part of a joint venture between the municipality of Eindhoven, Van Gogh Brabant, Vrijetijdshuis Brabant, Eindhoven 365 and Routebureau Brabant.
