HPLighting is a professional developer of high-power IR LED and UV LED packaging technologies as well as UV LED optical systems applications. As invisible lighting products continues to expand applications, the company has been creating products in reaction to the growing market demand in 2021-2022. In this context, TrendForce had the honor to interview Charles Wei, CEO of HPLighting, to further learn about the company’s business performance and outlook in the invisible lighting market in 2021-2022.
According to Charles Wei, IR LED business contains three main applications and the revenue collected from this business accounts for up to 70% of total revenue. The first application trend is motion sensing. Motion sensing is mainly used in industry and sports training markets for identifying the motions of operators and athletes by tracking human motions through IR LED and IR camera. This application is rising in European and the American markets, and it is expected to grow year by year.
The second application trend is driver/occupant monitoring system, which has been introduced in Chinese auto makers in 2021. In response to market demand, HPLighting released 1-3W IR LED with a multi-angle design. Moreover, car makers in Europe are also testing IR LED products. It is estimated that driver/occupant monitoring system market will generate much more revenues in 2022.
The third application trend is short wave infrared (SWIR). The wavelength of SWIR falls between 1,050-2,500nm. IR LED at this waveband can detect various components such as water, sugar and alcohol. HPLighting has successfully applied SWIR LED products to healthy lighting application. As SWIR LED market gradually grows, HPLighting will continue to develop new applications.
In reference to UV LED application market, Wei introduced that there was a palpable sign of recovery in UV curing market demand and the main driving forces include resin curing and inkjet printing, etc. HPLighting provides UV-A LED packaging and UV-A LED COB customized solutions to meet the equipment demands from European, American and Japanese markets.
The application market of UV-C LED is mainly home appliances. In 2021, HPLighting succeeded in entering the supply chain of Japan-based home appliances manufacturers. In addition, humidifier and flowing water sterilization also stimulate UV-C LED demand and serve as momentum for order increase. Wei emphasized that the improvement of UV-C LED disinfection and sterilization effect not only relies on enhancing chip power, but also on uniformly irradiating water, air or other objects to be sterilized. As such, optical design becomes the key factor. HPLighting offers all-round solution and its 2-3 L/Min flowing water purifier can deliver a germicidal effect of up to 99.99%.
Last but not least, “HPLighting stays focus on developing IR LED and UV LED markets and will cooperate with valuable customers to create innovative solutions. We expect to continuously improve market recognition and competitiveness in niche application fields”, Wei indicated.
