A few days ago, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the famous ski resort, LES MENUIRES, in the French Alps in the Savoie region of France, organized a special light show where LED lighting and video mapping were part of the festivities.
Les Menuires is connected to 600km of slopes making it a part of the largest skiable area in the world. The resort is also best known for hosting the men’s slalom alpine skiing event during the 1992 WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES IN ALBERTVILLE.
On Thursday February 12th a spectacular lightshow took place on and off the slopes. On the Croisette, the heart of the resort, a whirlwind of high voltage colored video mapping was splashed on surrounding buildings. The masterpieces of celebrated abstract artists Mondiran, Kandinsky and Malevitch were revisited through this video mapping installation.
The famous mountain Le Bouquetin, the emblem of the resort, was the canvas for a wonderful light show that flowed down the slopes. A highlight of the celebration occurred when 50 instructors wearing outfits embedded with PHILIPS LEDs, skied down the famous landmark to meet the crowd at the foot of the mountain.
Also there was LED writing on the snow, light projection everywhere, skiers in colorful LED jackets zipping downhill while others skiers in LED gear in the chair lifts were heading up.
Up, down and all around, I just love how LEDs and light projection are being used to create magical moments for the public to enjoy.
