Ketra Illuminates New Art Institute of Chicago Exhibit

Ketra, the supplier of premium digital lighting systems, today announced that it will be illuminating newly reinstalled galleries of medieval art, as well as additional areas at the Art Institute of Chicago, a world-renowned art museum with one of the largest permanent collections in the United States. Philips to Install New York Tappan Zee Bridge with Smart LED Lights

Power management company Eaton today announced that it has helped improve the lighting performance and energy efficiency in a campus recreation facility at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Clue 01 Competition Winner Shed Light on Photovascular System Design

In early March, Philips announced the winners of the revamped international lighting design CLUE Competition. The theme this year was Interface. The participants were asked to explore transformative potentials and to define unique lighting innovations that celebrate the activities of both the built and unbuilt communities. Incorporating the concepts of contact, transparency, transition, threshold, limits, dark/light, natural/artificial, the interface focuses on the spatial interactions influenced by exchanges between one and the other, and thereby distinguishing the two adjacent spaces.

“Come fly with me, let’s fly, let’s fly away.” The swing music of Frank Sinatra resonated throughout the new terminal of McAllen Airport, in McAllen, Texas. Lighting designer Daryl Vaughan was running tests on the new water feature at the center of the terminal, making sure all the elements were working correctly. Meanwhile the feature came to life with dancing lights and bubbles coordinated to the catchy tune. That’s when Vaughan noticed the two young children staring at the feature in absolute awe with their eyes and jaws wide open.

Spaceship Lands in Nanjing? No it’s Another LED Lit Landmark

It looks like giant spaceship or a design from the set of Blade Runner.  This bold construction is the International Youth Culture Centre in Nanjing, China. Transforming the city’s skyline with a 16 million color palette and delighting locals and tourists alike, the façade of the 68-storey building, which houses a five-star hotel and offices, costs less than EUR 114 a day to light. This is because the building uses an energy-efficient dynamic color-changing computer controlled LED lighting system from Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHIA), the global leader in lighting. In this instance, the computer controlled LED lighting system saves an additional 60% in electricity used, compared to normal LED color lighting.
