Elumin8 Ltd has today announced a strategic partnership with Chinese lighting company Tianjin Gongda Hiyu Solid State Lighting Co. Ltd. (Hiyu). The agreement is to develop advanced LED street lighting applications and distribute them across Europe, Middle East & Asia. HiYu is an associate of the Climate Control Committee – part of the Climate Group
British-owned-and-run lighting business Elumin8 manufactures energy-efficient lighting products using LED, Electroluminescence and Solar technologies predominantly for road sign and automotive products. For the past six months, the company has been working closely with a Chinese counterpart HiYu to share technological advancements. HiYu is one of the region’s leading LED development companies with a focus on street light applications.
The partnership means that both companies will join forces in the evolution of energy-efficient lighting products, as well as the distribution in various territories across the globe. Barry Hatcher, Elumin8 CEO commented, “We are extremely excited and proud to be teaming up with HiYu who we believe have incredible knowledge of the technology. Coupled with our own developments and our network in 23 countries we will be able to work on some fantastic products and take them to market in a very short space of time.”
HiYu was established in 2006 and has some of the most advanced research facilities. Already, their products are on test in New York State, and there is also an installation in Tianjin of 2200 lighting units. HiYu is a partner of the Climate Group, an organisation that is strongly supported by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. In October 2009, HiYu was listed as one of the most important technology programs in China.
“What makes this alliance really interesting is the fact that we have a British-owned business working closely with a Chinese company to help with the problem of climate change. Generally people associate China with being the cause not the solution. But that is quite in accurate as we see with HiYu, if anything, they are becoming the world leaders in developing these greener lighting technologies. What we want to do now is make sure everyone benefits from these technologies” said Barry Hatcher.
Elumin8 will be showcasing their new LED products in March at Intertraffic in Amsterdam. On display will be both street lighting products and road safety products. All have a solar power option which will also mean they are carbon neutral. The announcement has already created a lot of interest from the UK and Europe. “It seems countries are grasping for these products and we have our diaries pretty full for the show in Amsterdam” commented Barry Hatcher.
