The West Lafayette Community School Corporation has recently completed a major lighting overhaul intended to improve efficiencies, reduce operating costs and benefit the environment. The extensive project was completed by Enreco USA an energy services company which provides energy efficient solutions through lighting applications, solar projects and other emerging technologies.
Larry Wood, Director of Facilities at West Lafayette, said that he had been considering updating the gymnasium lighting but was not sure how to go about doing it or how he would be able to justify the initial outlay of capital for the project. He indicated that he was glad he awarded the project to Enreco USA because of their ability to “make it simple” by coordinating every detail of the lighting update – from doing an initial audit of the facility to determine the projected cost savings to analyzing utility incentives and from disposal of old fixtures to the installation of the new ones – everything was managed and overseen by the team.
For this project, Enreco USA installed LED lighting supplied by West End Lighting instead of fluorescent lighting primarily because West Lafayette was aiming to reduce the overall operating and maintenance costs while improving the actual lighting emissions in the gymnasium. With the LED lights being more energy efficient than fluorescent lights, the long term cost savings were enough to justify the slightly greater upfront costs. “Overall, the decision to go with the LED lighting worked out very well and it will be very serviceable for us,” noted Wood.
