Sports + Orthopedic Leaders (SOL) Physical Therapy, Oakland, Calif, has found a new discovery in treating patients with LED light therapy.
The practices treat patients with the APLightsource 2000 from A Perfect Light, Del Mar, Calif, a non-invasive treatment program designed to use red and infrared LEDs to stimulate cell growth and blood flow.
The device is made with 2,000 LED lights mounted on flexible pads in order to deliver multiple frequencies of the light into the injured area; mitochondria of the cells is stimulated by these frequencies to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the fuel that cells use to produce DNA and RNA, repair damage, and produce collagen. As cells regenerate, pain subsides, scars heal, and mobility increases.
Tammara Moore, DPT, from SOL Physical Therapy, is satisfied with the result, “We have seen incredible results from light therapy treatments on our patients. It can really speed up recovery time from injuries and is very effective in treating stubborn chronic pain.”
Using light therapy, therapists at SOL treat patients for back pain, ligament and joint injuries, muscle strains, contusions and bruising, arthritis, muscular atrophy, chronic pain conditions, muscle aches and pains, and tendonitis.
The treatment also reportedly helps increase collagen production in skin, reducing the appearance of scars and improving the overall appearance of skin.
Additionally, light therapy can also help to increase endorphin levels, injury recovery, cellular energy, tissue strength, and circulation, and reduce inflammation.
The treatment is now offered at both SOL Physical Therapy in Santa Cruz, Calif, and new Oakland-based sports rehab facility, SOL Performance Training.
