Taiwan Donates Solar LED Lights to Tuvalu

Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou has announced that the island will step up efforts to assist Tuvalu to become a low-carbon country. Ma says this latest commitment, which is in addition to the nearly four thousand solar LED lights Taiwan has already donated, will boost energy savings in Tuvalu.

According to the Marianas Variety report, Taiwan plans to help Tuvalu replace its fluorescent street lights with environmentally friendly LED fixtures as part of the Lamp of Taiwan project.

Launched after Ma took office in May 2008, the Lamp of Taiwan project uses advanced solar-based light-emitting diode technology to harness sunlight.
