LED Backlight Module Manufacturers Benefit from Demand Increase

The LED industry has experienced unusually good performance during traditional slack season, according to a report by United Evening News. Backlight module manufacturers Unity Opto, Lextar, and Tekcore are optimistic as market demands for backlight rise. Benefiting from high resolution TV trend, TV backlight's high brightness demands have become even more evident, said industry insiders. Prices have stabilized following increase in luminosity despite fewer LED’s used and market polarization has become more evident as large companies expand.

Despite there being fewer working days due to Chinese Lunar New Year in February, Unity Opto was not impacted and monthly orders increased for both backlight and lighting products. Operations in 1Q14 have rebounded from 4Q13 low season, where companies were trying to clear inventory. Performance this year has been atypical for slack season, said Lextar. Backlight market showed increase in growth of NB, displays, and other application fields. The company is optimistic that direct-type orders will drive TV backlight modules. Chip manufacturer Tekcore is also optimistic about the market situation this year which has already shown improvement from last year.
