Unity Opto aims to ship 60 million bulbs by 2015, nearly doubled growth compared to 2014, according to a China Times report.
LED lighting demands have soared after Christmas holidays, which has spurred lighting demands. Additionally, LED backlight is entering a peak delivery season. The Taiwanese LED manufacturer has set an ambitious revenue goal this year of reaching NT $10 billion (US $320 million).
LED lighting’s strong growth demands have led to soaring client orders, said Unity Opto Chairman Alpha Wu. The company’s orders for May 2015 have reached 25 million bulbs, far exceeding the 20 million bulbs for entire year in 2014. Unity Opto decided to raise its shipment targets, due to the rebounding economy and visibility. In early 2015, the company had a shipment target of 40 million bulbs, but has since raised the bar from 50 million to 60 million bulbs.
To meet large order demands, Unity Opto has also set expansion goals. At the current stage, the company’s LED bulbs production capacity is about 4 million to 5 million bulbs, but will increase production capacity from 6 million to 7 million bulbs by 2Q15. The company’s production capacity will be further expanded to 8 million bulbs by third quarter. With the added production capacity, Unity Opto expects LED lighting revenue will double.
Unity Opto’s LED lighting revenue reached NT $3 billion in 2014, and is expected double to reach a range between NT $6 billion and NT $7 billion. Lighting products have become a main source of revenue for Unity Opto. Wu was also optimistic about LED backlight for high-end smartphone market, and has shipped LEDs for nearly 10 million smartphones in January 2015 alone, which is nearly a third of the 30 million smartphone LEDs the company shipped in the whole of 2014. The industry will be entering a peak season in March 2015.
The company will also continue developing niche lighting markets, such as fish tank lamps and special high-end residential lighting. The company will only make a small volume of products but adopt high pricing strategies. In these markets, Unity Opto will be branding their own products, and will not be competing against their clients.
The company’s revenue for January 2015 was up 28.1% to reach NT $851 million, and has reported an annual increase of 51.9%. Based on Unity Opto’s revenue targets, the company’s revenue growth for 2015 will most likely reach two digit growths.
