Her company released a statement: “It is with great sadness that Zaha Hadid Architects have confirmed that Dame Zaha Hadid DBE died suddenly in Miami in the early hours of this morning.” She had contracted bronchitis and suffered a sudden heart attack while being treated in hospital.

The Iraqi government depicted Hadid’s death as “an irreplaceable loss to Iraq and the global community,” reported the Guardian.

Only earlier this year, Hadid received the Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) Gold Medal. She was proud to have been the first female that ever won her own right.

Her designs can be seen around the world, including Hong Kong, Germany and Azerbaijan.

The Taiwan-based Danjiang Bridge was also designed by the architect. The bridge is set to finish by 2020. By then it will be the longest single-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world, according Wikipedia.

Her other creations include the Riverside Museum at Glasgow's Museum of Transport, Nanjing International Youth Culture Centre and Guangzhou Opera House in China.

The Nanjing-based International Youth Culture Centre was also designed by leading architect Zaha Hadid. The building incorporates an energy-efficient, color changing controlled LED lighting system from Philips Lighting. (Philips Lighting/LEDinside)
