California City to Upgrade to LED Streetlights

News Source:

Clovis, a city located in Fresno County, California in the U.S. will be replacing 7,600 streetlights with LED bulbs in the next few weeks, announced Pacific Gas and Electric last Friday.

The streetlight conversion will help the city save about US $48,000 per year, reported The Fresno Bee.

Crews will start swapping bulbs on Monday, which will take about six to 12 weeks to finish.

PG&E stated it will be switching 150,000 bulbs throughout Central and Northern California, and the replacement is expected to improve road safety for drivers and pedestrians with more uniform light distribution. The installation will also help Clovis save 1.94 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.

The new LED bulbs have a lifetime about four times longer than conventional bulbs, and consume 50% to 75% fewer electricity, is capable of reducing greenhouse emissions, and require less maintenance than conventional bulbs.
