India’s Ujala scheme is to start the distribution of new 9WLED bulbs at INR 75 (US $1.1) to residents and commercial consumers in Delhi, reported Times of India.
Consumers of Delhi will be given 9W LED bulbs under the Government of India's Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme, stated Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) in a statement.
The distribution will kick off in July. The 7W LED bulbs that were previously distributed will be replaced.
EESL is to sign a MoU with the Department of post in order to reach to a larger group of consumers. Each energy efficient bulb enables consumers to save in between INR 160 to INR 400 every year. They are designed to last for 25,000 hours while require the minimum maintenance. The cost of purchasing these LED bulbs can be paid off within one year or even less. The Ujala scheme is to be deployed in 87 spots in the city.
Following the procurement of 9W LED bulbs, it’s believed that Delhi will also get to have access to these 9W LED bulbs, said Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director of EESL. Kumar encourages all residents to take advantage to the distribution.
