Lite-On Partakes in Stanford GPC Digital Cities Program

Taiwan-based LED lighting company Lite-On announced its participation in a digital cities program run by the Global Project Center of Stanford University. Through collaboration with experts in various fields including finance, city management, and infrastructure planning, it aims to tailor its solutions toward the concept of smart cities.

The Stanford GPC Affiliate Program in Digital Cities is an interdisciplinary research created with a goal to bring together qualified professionals from diverse areas to explore how emerging technologies can contribute to a future of smart cities and to influence governments’ and enterprises’ mindsets in the era of urban digitization.

Lite-On, as a member of the program, will be able to harness resources such as equipment and research results to cultivate business models in which its solutions will integrate with other technologies across artificial intelligence, metamaterials, and self-driving vehicles. It also sees a chance to work with Stanford University and Silicon Valley companies to develop smart applications.

The world’s urban population over the last five decades has witnessed a drastic soar from 1 billion to 3.5 billion. The number is estimated to double in the next fifty years, with around 70% living in urban environments. The GPC is believed urban planning and management is necessary in the face of rapid growth in urbanization.
