HC Semitek Discloses Progress in Developing Mini/Micro LED

Over the past two years, Micro LED, regarded as the new generation display technology, has attracted a lot of attention. Seeing great potential in this new technology, a large number of manufacturers have scrambled for it. According to LEDinside’s latest report "1Q18 Micro LED Next-Generation Display Technology Market Report- 2018 Micro LED and Mini LED Industry Trend", the market value of Micro LED is expected to reach US $2.891 billion in 2025.

HC Semitek, as the second largest LED chip supplier in China and one of the few chip makers capable of the production of RGB LED chips, has accumulated rich experience in the manufacturing of indoor and outdoor LED displays and backlight applications. With its own flip chip technologies, in the past two years, HC Semitek has collaborated with international and domestic packaging manufacturers in China. It launched relatively advanced chip products, such as blue Mini LED chips for backlight applications and RGB Mini LED chips for LED displays.

In particular, the company designs the Mini LEDs used in backlight modules with unique optics in order to control their light emission. Meanwhile, it is also cooperating closely with its customers on new projects.

Speaking of RGB Mini LED chips for displays, features of HC Semitek's chips— high photoelectric performance, reliability, and color consistency— have won recognition from several customers. The commercialization of those chips will depend on when end products will be launched and how well the market promotion will go.

In terms of Micro LED, HC Semitek has done plenty of research ranging from the manufacturing of epi wafers to that of Micro LED chips.

HC Semitek optimized the wavelength, brightness, and voltage uniformity of its epi wafers. Meanwhile, it has developed technologies to control particles and expand the size of its epi wafers.

In addition, the company optimized micrometer-level chip manufacturing processes, sidewall protection, substrate lift-off, and technologies to adjust the light emission of LED chips.

HC Semitek said it will continue to work with downstream companies in the supply chain. LED chip makers' technology breakthrough is not the only factor to make new display technologies successful. It requires efforts from the entire industry to realize the commercialization of Mini LED and Micro LED.
