【Display Week】Micro LED Display for Automotive and Wearable Applications

Despite the interruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of novel display technologies have to go on. At the virtual Display Week held last week, there were still several new Micro LED display exhibits showcased by worldwide experts. LEDinside selects a few innovations that cannot be missed.

AUO

AUO exhibited an integrated full color TFT driven Micro LED automotive displays with two 9.4-inch flexible Micro LED panels. Its S-curve shape enables the display to be mounted into automotive interior design. It also demonstrated a 12.1-inch Micro LED cluster display and 12.1-inch CID display as well as another V-shaped vehicle cockpit display implementing full color TFT driven Micro LED technology.

ITRI

ITRI showcased a flexible full color Micro LED display module sized 60mm*30mm. The display used chips that are smaller than 50 µm to achieve a pixel pitch of 250 µm and a resolution of 240*120 (100 PPI). According to ITRI, the display module can be applied in wearable devices.

Jade Bird Display

Jade Bird Display (JBD) demonstrated its AmµmLED series of active matrix Micro LED display. The company presented a 0.13-inch, a 0.31-inch and a 0.22-inch RGB Micro LED display based on Si-IC backplanes. The 0.31-inch product features pixel pitch of 5 µm and a resolution of 1280*720. The 0.22-inch one with a pixel pitch of 2.5 µm and 1920*1080 resolution and the 0.13 display with a pixel pitch of 4 µm and 640*480 resolution. The displays are designed for AR/VR devices.

Tianma

Tianma’s Micro LED exhibits included a 5.04-inch Micro LED display, a 7.56-inch flexible Micro LED display and a 5.84-inch Micro LED + E-paper. All of the Micro LED displays are driven with active matrix. The 5.04-inch product features 114 PPI and 480*320 RGB resolution. The 7.56-inch flexible Micro LED display is with 114 PPI and 480*720 RGB resolution. They are both designed for automotive display applications. Meanwhile, the 5.84-inch Micro LED display is for E-book application with a resolution of 480*648.
