Three-display centerhung system featuring 900 square feet to entertain Blue Devils fans in 2024

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Apr. 29, 2024 – Blue Devils fans are in for a new visual experience as Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, has partnered with Duke University, in conjunction with EwingCole architecture, to design, manufacture and install a three-display centerhung configuration at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The new visual centerpiece will improve the game-day presentation with videos and statistics in the fall of 2024.

Centerhung Video Display Details

The three-display configuration of the centerhung features three seamless displays wrapping around the structure. The main video display measures approximately 11.5 feet high by 59 feet around while the lower ring measures 2.5 feet high by 52.5 feet around. On the underbelly, catering to fans sitting closer to the action, a ring display measures 2.5 feet high by 39.5 feet around.

Combined, the new centerhung system will feature 900 square feet of digital canvas, more than double the previous centerhung total of 436 square feet. With the improved resolution from 10-millimeter to 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing, the centerhung will now feature approximately 5.5 million pixels compared to the previous 415,000 pixels.

Conceptual Image

The main display is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image facing each direction of the arena as well as being divided into multiple zones to show any combination of digital content. This could be live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics and game information, graphics and animations, or sponsorship messages.

“For us to be a part of this project at such a historic venue as Cameron Indoor Stadium is an honor,” said Corey Williams, Daktronics sales representative. “To help enhance the game-day experience for the fans and work closely with our longtime partners at Duke makes this a very rewarding endeavor. We’re looking forward to seeing how the new centerhung adds to the already amazing atmosphere.”

Additional Display Details

Adding to the upgrades at Cameron Indoor Stadium, four new corner ribbon displays will be added along with 2 LED scorers tables and 11 press table displays along the sides of the court. All displays will feature 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing. The corner ribbons will each measure 2.5 feet high by 8 feet wide, 11 student-side press table displays will each measure 2.5 feet high by nearly 10 feet wide and two bench-side scorers tables will each measure 2.5 feet high by 8 feet wide.

These displays will bring extra statistics and graphics to every event as well as additional sponsorship opportunities for brand recognition.

Future Display Plans

With eyes on the future, phase two of the technology renovation is planned to deliver four corner video displays. Each would measure nearly 10 feet high by 23 feet wide. And on the backside of the banners currently hanging from the rafters, two additional ribbon-style displays are planned to measure 5 feet high by more than 26 feet wide. These displays would all feature the same 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing for excellent image clarity brought to additional statistics, graphics, videos and other content provided to improve the live event atmosphere for all Duke events.
