BOE Becomes Apple’s Third OLED Panel Supplier

Chinese panel producer BOE will become a supplier of OLED panels to Apple for iPhone aside from Samsung and LGD, reported Etnews, a South Korean media.

According to the report, BOE might be providing flexible OLED panel for the folding iPhone scheduled for 2020. However, currently the flexible OLED panels of BOE have not passed Apple’s final validation yet. For officially supplying its OLED products to Apple, BOE has to provide further sample products and go through the demanding process of quality control. As a result, it might take more time for BOE to achieve the quality requirement of Apple.

It is said that BOE has improved the yield of its OLED production and will initiate new production line exclusively for Apple to guarantee capacity.

On the other hand, Apple has been searching for other OLED suppliers so that it can negotiate the price with Samsung. Samsung used to be an exclusive OLED of Apple and then LGD joined the team of suppliers. If the BOE news is confirmed, the Chinese panel manufacturer will be the third one. Moreover, BOE might be able to solve the issue of over production with the supply to Apple.
