EPA Adds MET Laboratories to Its Certification Body for ENERGY STAR® Program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Testing and certification organization MET Laboratories as a Certification Body (CB) for Luminaires (including sub-components), Integral LED Lamps, & Set-Top and Cable Boxes under the ENERGY STAR® program.

The EPA recognition establishes MET as an independent third-party eligible to certify products to ENERGY STAR energy efficiency requirements for these categories, in addition to already recognized categories.

MET Labs qualifies and verifies that products meet ENERGY STAR requirements by testing them in its EPA-recognized laboratories, by witness or supervised testing at manufacturers' labs, or by verifying testing data from other EPA-recognized third-party labs.

MET can also perform the ENERGY STAR In Situ Temperature Measurement Test (ISTMT) for lighting products: ANSI/UL 1598 or ANSI/UL 153-05.

In addition, MET plans to add compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) into the scope of its recognition over the coming months.
