Aixtron: MOCVD Solutions to Raise LED Production Volume

Levent Touter, Senior Field Marketing Manager of  Aixtron discussed innovative MOCVD solutions and developments at LEDforum 2014, hosted by LEDinside last month in Taipei, Taiwan. The German MOCVD manufacturer's  R&D investment reached nearly US $100 million annually, and has recently sealed a deal with China’s top LED manufacturer San’an Opto to sell 50 MOCVD equipment.

The global LED market has been gradually growing in recent years, said Touter. In 2013, the total LED global market revenue reached US $14 billion, and is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13% to reach $26 billion by 2018. Solid state lighting application revenue is also projected to increase at a CAGR of 27% to reach US $14.9 billion by 2018, and estimated to account for 50% of LED growth. This indicates LED lighting market penetration will continue to climb up, and spur overall LED market growth. This shows LED manufacturers are facing difficult challenges, and reducing costs will continue to play a key role in maintaining profitability.

Aside from forming strategic alliances or mergers, manufacturers can also raise technology capacity to control costs. Aixtron provides three technology solutions to LED manufacturers to raise LED production volume, product efficiency and lower costs. The solutions include directly introducing new equipment to expand production capacity, improve current equipment efficiency and production capacity, or planning to add new cleanroom equipment in the future, for instance the fully automated AIX G5 HT MOCVD or Planetary ReactorTM.

LED manufacturers high product quality and low pricing demands actually presents a lot of challenges and stress for LED manufacturers, but the challenges also presents particular opportunities. In the future, Aixtron will continue to cooperate with LED manufacturers, and assist clients to meet their targeted demands.
