The widely anticipated 2014 GE Edison Awards Preliminaries has officially kicked off this week. Preliminaries are being held across Asia Pacific to encourage the participation of regional lighting designers and professionals in this prestigious global competition.
The GE Edison Awards were inaugurated with the aim of providing recognition to lighting professionals worldwide for outstanding design and high-quality lighting projects. The awards seek to encourage designers to create excellent designs using energy-efficient solutions that integrate seamlessly with the overall architecture.
The judging criteria of the Asia Pacific preliminary competition follow that of the global GE Edison Awards. A key consideration is that projects must employ significant use of GE light sources (lamps and/or LEDs). The panel of judges for the Asia Pacific preliminaries will comprise five esteemed lighting designers and industry leaders from across Asia, including Professor Hao Luoxi from Tongji University’s Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Shanghai, China. She will also sit on the judging panel for the global GE Edison Awards.
GE Lighting Asia Pacific will lend its full support to the winners of the Asia Pacific preliminaries in their participation towards the global 2014 GE Edison Awards. It will actively promote the winning designers, as well as raise visibility of the winning works both in the region and globally. The winners of the GE Edison Awards Asia Pacific preliminaries will also be invited to participate in an awards ceremony to be held at the Guangzhou International Lighting Fair in June 2013.
Entries for the GE Edison Awards Asia Pacific preliminaries may be submitted between April 15 and May 17, and the works will be available for viewing on the GE Asia Pacific micro-blog. Online voting and judges’ consideration will take place between May 18 and 23.
