Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2017 at Las Vegas that runs from Jan. 5-8, 2017 kicked off the first week of the year. Several interesting trends noted at this year’s show, first off smart lighting has been particularly quiet this year. Soraa has been the only company to announce its first smart LED bulb, Helia, which delivers a light color temperature close to natural sunlight.
Osram showed off its advanced automotive lighting products, including lasers and other concept LED headlights while other companies were oddly quiet during this major consumer electronic show. The battle front at CES 2017 this year seems to be in the three competing next generation display technologies, with QD LED or micro-LED capable of lifting up the LED industry’s, or in the case of OLED sinking the industry.
More manufacturers are looking into QD technology, Samsung waltzed into the CES 2017 show with three new QD LED TV models, abandoning large OLED TV displays. Nanoco, a Manchester-based QD material manufacturer displayed TV prototypes from TCL, TPV Philips and Hisense. Suggesting there will be more consumer electronic manufacturers interested in this next generation technology in the near future. The TV is less costly to make in comparison to OLED TVs.
Japanese consumer electronic manufacturers Sony and Panasonic are also making a comeback with their OLED TVs, nearly walking away from the less profitable sector two years ago the two companies have brought back an impressive OLED TV lineup. Sony’s OLED TV design innovatively solves a long term issue of sound quality with ultra-thin displays, while Panasonic image performance received high ratings from most tech industry experts. LG again wowed the crowd with a paper thin OLED TV that BGR even wrote: “These TVs are ridiculous. They should not exist. Science shouldn’t allow it.”
There has not been much news on micro-LED displays. The only publicized micro-LED product on the market so far has been Sony’s commercial LCD display CLEDIS. Few details about this micro-LED TV has been announced, and its retail price remains confidential. However, the module design does significantly increase displays flexibility designs providing the option of numerous configuration and assembly. For more please see below:
