The specs on iPhone 6s were not far off from early predictions in the industry, such as Apple will be redesigning the phone to meet selfie enthusiasts’ demands, reported Chinese-language media TechNews.
The company has added Retina Flash to compensate the lighting functions. This feature is distinguishes the phone from other competing manufacturers technology. Interestingly, the flash light has been integrated with the display.

Previous iPhone’s front-facing FaceTime Camera performance has been lower than expectations, but in the latest iPhone 6s series, the resolution of the front facing camera has been increased to 5 megapixels. The camera resolution is still a lot lower than other smartphone brands resolution of over 10 megapixels, but Apple is still confident because the iPhone 6s series has added a new Retina Flash.

Many people will remember Apple’s iPhone 5s rear camera, iSight Camera, uses a dual-colored LED flash lighting system coined True Tone. These colored LEDs are good at compensating lighting and photo effects. Apple has moved the True Tone flash light technology to the front facing camera, but it will be difficult to find the LED flash light on top of the screen because Apple is using LEDs in the Retina display backlight.

However, light emitted from the monitor’s backlight is not sufficient enough to compensate lighting. Hence, Apple has adopted another custom display chip, which can increase the monitor flash light brightness by three folds. When used in selfies, the display’s monitor flash lights will detect surrounding light beams, and emit flash lights that correspond to the environment. The result is a more color realistic photo. Even in dimly lit environments, the frontal Retina flash lights can compensate the lighting and take very good photos.

Custom display chip raises flash brightness by three folds.
Someone already tried transforming the monitor backlight in mobile devices, as compensating lighting a couple of years ago using iPads. Apple’s current flash light integrated mobile monitors will make taking selfies very easy in the future.
