OLED panels manufactured by LG Display are regarded as high-quality products, which has already been proven by LG's OLED TV and recently-launched V30 smartphone. However, LG did not limit the adoption of its OLED panels in the range of consumer electronics. Recently, LG has presented OLED lighting panels as desk lamps.

In fact, this is not the first time that LG unveiled OLED lamps. Back in 2014, LG Elec. already displayed a product prototype. Now, LG Display will soon realize the concept by putting its OLED lamp into mass production in 2018.
From 2014 to 2017, the technological growth of OLED desk lamp has gone up with a leap. Back in 2014, it was manufactured via the second generation technology. By contrast, now in 2017, LG Display uses the more efficient fifth generation manufacturing technology.

This OLED light features an ultra-thin light-emitting panel covered with plastic materials that make the fixture highly flexible. The OLED light panel comes in shapes of a square, a rectangle and a flexible strip.

Compared with the version in 2014, this desk lamp provides higher power and longer lifespan. At designjunction, London Design Festival 2017, LG Display showcased these lamps and proclaimed the flexible strip model can last for 30,000-40,000 hours. In other words, it lasts for 13 years if on for 10 hours per day.
Like regular LED lamps, LG's OLED light panel is dimmable to match the scene and time. Its flexibility opens up a variety of design options. In addition to home lighting, LG Display also attempts to bring its OLED light panels to the automotive lighting sector by collaborating with automobile companies.
One thing worth mentioning is that LG Display does not directly distribute these OLED lamps by itself. Consumers can purchase the 2nd-gen version currently circulating in the spot market, but the 5th-gen version showcased at London Design Festival 2017 will not be available after 2018 when it is put into mass production.
