Samsung Sued for Quantum Dot Patent Infringement with Its QLED TVs

Nanoco, a UK-based quantum dot technology specialist, announced that it has filed a patent lawsuit against Samsung, accursing the Korean company of infringing Nanoco’s quantum dot patent.

 

Nanoco filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on February 14, 2020 against defendants including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Visual Display and Samsung Electronics America.

Samsung was accused of infringing five technologies related to nanoparticles and quantum dots. The Korean giant has developed its QLED TV series based with quantum dots technology.

According to Business Korea, Nanoco has collaborate with Samsung in 2010 on LCD module material technology products and provided quantum dot samples to Samsung. Later in 2015, Samsung introduced its quantum dot based TV and launch the series product, named QLED TV, in 2017.

Nanoco claimed that Samsung’s QLED TV products were manufactured with five of the quantum dot technologies of Nanoco without permission.
