SemiLEDs to Open New LED Production Facility in Foshan, China

SemiLEDs Corporation, a Taiwan-based LED chip manufacturer, today announces the establishment of its new state of the art fabrication facility in Foshan, China. The brand new, state-of-the art facility will produce LED wafers and high power LED chips using SemiLEDs’ patented vertical LED on metal technology. The development for SemiLEDs new facility will be in three stages with the initial stage, seeing an investment of USD $96 million, set to be ready for full scale production by October, 2010. Initial monthly production capacity at the impressive facility will be 20 million 1mm x 1mm LED chips per month with investment and production expected to grow by three times within a period of three years.

SemiLEDs Chairman and CEO, Trung Doan said “Developing a fabrication facility in the NanHai Economic Development Zone will allow SemiLEDs to be in the center of the LED industry in China. This is especially true since NanHai has invested RMB $2 billion to support the industry’s development. The government provides great support and combined with the local industry it makes a perfect match.”

The establishment of its production facility in China allows SemiLEDs the opportunity to provide further service and support to a growing number of companies involved in Solid State Lighting throughout China while further increasing production to meet rapidly growing global demand. SemiLEDs is a major LED chip supplier to many packaging companies in China focusing on Solid State Lighting such as street lights, commercial and residential lighting.
