Hot Picks of the Week March 7-11
Highlights this week:
It has been done. A group of British researchers have succeeded in growing laser on silicon substrates, which could pave the way to economic super computers in the future. If this technology leaves the lab, it could overturn the lighting industry.
Taiwanese LED chip maker Epistar usually has taken a more passive stance when it comes to court battles, but recently it alleged Epileds for infringing three IR LED patents. The company also shared with us their latest LED filament patent strategy.
More rumors about next generation iPhones has been spreading like wild fire for the last couple of weeks, with market rumors pointing to a larger OLED screened phone of potentially 5.8-inch. LG Display is the rumored supplier for the OLED-screened phones. The Korean company continues to be very active in the OLED market, and is said to be delivering its OLED displays for interior display systems in the Mercedes Benz E-class. LG has also asked Samsung to form a large OLED TV panel partnership to cope with Chinese competitors.
Ahead of Light+Building 2016, some trends we are seeing from manufacturers press releases include smart LED lights, more efficient and brighter LED packages, surge in CoB products and better lights.
