HTC Plans to Compete in Wearable Device Market

Following two years of revenue decline, HTC is hoping the launch of new wearable devices will help turn profits around according to a report by Bloomberg.

The company may demonstrate one of three wearable devices at the upcoming tradeshow in Barcelona, though the company is still unsure if they will show the devices publically or just give carriers a glimpse.

Two of the three wearable devices will be smartwatches, one based on Google Now’s services and the other on Qualcomm’s Toq device. The company will go head to head with Samsung and Sony in the wearable device market that will be worth US $30 billion (NT $910 billion) by 2018, according to Bloomberg.

The company hopes that through the launch of new products, increase in market, and improved customer service, will reverse the downward trend. Cher Wang, chairman of HTC, expressed during an interview with Bloomberg that the company will launch the first of their wearable devices by this Christmas. They however did not reveal which one.

Shares reached the highest in 4 weeks recently in Taipei at NT $133.50, an increase of 1.9 percent.
