Massachusetts plans to upgrade one-third of its streetlight around the state to LED lights, according to an AP report.
The project is part of Governor Deval Patrick’s effort to reduce electricity consumption and energy costs, and cut greenhouse gas emission, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation said.
The project will install around 2,000 energy-saving streetlights in the initial phase, which cost around US $2.2 million. The agency leverages incentives of US $370,000 from Northeast Utilities and National Grid for the project.
