Since the initial production began in the second half of 2018, Mini LED products including backlit panel and RGB displays are gaining more and more visibility in the industry with a wide range of applications launched in 2019 and the coming 2020.
The LED industry players in Taiwan and China see the rising market of Mini LED and are putting their strength into product development and capacity increase.
Epistar, as a Mini LED pioneer, has already shipped backlight product for high-end monitors, notebooks, automotive displays and smartphones. The company is going to double its capacity to meet the growing applications.
LED packager Harvatek began small amount production for its Mini LED 4 in 1 product for RGB display. It also delivered samples of Mini LED backlight product for high end TVs and monitors.
AOT of the Foxconn Group expects to ship Mini LED products for 8K TVs in 3Q20, catching up with the booming demands brought by the Tokyo Olympic. Meanwhile, the company also focus on Mini LED automotive displays for aftermarket with products scheduled in the second half of 2020.
China’s largest panel producer BOE also announced that the company will launch Mini LED backlit product with glass backplane in 2020. Suffered from the tepid panel market in the first half of 2019, the panel maker decided to stop increasing LCD capacity and shift its resources to OLED, Mini LED and Micro LED.
LEDinside pointed out it the 2019 Mini LED and HDR High-End Display Market Report that, Mini LEDs has officially joining the competition with OLED in the display market. It is predicted that Mini LED backlights in 2024 will enjoy penetration rates of 20%, 15% and 10% respectively in the application markets of ITs, TVs and tablets.
