Puducherry, a Union Territory of India, has launched its second phase LED bulb distribution project, The Hindu reported Puducherry Electricity Minister T. Thiagarajan saying recently.
The local government has initiated the second phase of LED bulbs distribution in three villages, Irulanchandai, Kuruvinatham Pet, Bahour Pet- of Bahour commune.
Additionally, the minister has also launched the “LED Village Campaign program” at Pudhu Nagar, Kanniyakovil. The program includes the distribution and replacement of sodium vapor lamps (SVL), fluorescent lamp (FTL) with LED streetlights.
The LED Village Campaign Program, the energy conservation scheme is supported by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Union Ministry of Power.
The program aims to replace incandescent bulbs in the One House One Bulb (OHOB) households with LEDs, and convert existing streetlights with LEDs in certain villages.
Under the LED Village Campaign Program, 1,850 incandescent bulbs were replaced with LEDs and 166 sodium vapor lights and fluorescent lamps were swapped to energy efficient LED streetlights.
The project funded by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), New Delhi, Government if India with the project cost INR 1.60 million (US $ 23,661.66).
Energy savings from the project is estimated to reach 85% from the total power usage by the conventional type lamps, according to a press release from the Renewable Agency Puducherry.
