Samsung Launches the First LED TVs in India

Samsung launched the first LED technology-based TV in India last Wednesday.

Samsung India launched the LED TV series 6 and 7 in 40 and 46 inch respectively and the 8 series in 55 inch in the Indian market. The TVs based on LED technology are 70 per cent slimmer and consumes less than 40 per cent of the power consumed by conventional LCD TVs. All three series are as slim as only 29.9mm.

With the gap between the TV and the wall slimmed to 15mm, the Samsung LED TVs look like a picture frame hanging on a wall.

The TVs also feature Mega Contrast technology which intelligently controls the LED's brightness levels to produce authentic blacks with the backlights generating the richest and most vivid colors that are crystal clear without any blurring.

LCD TVs with LED-backlight will make up eight per cent of the total market by 2011, according to the industry researcher institute Displaybank. The great market potential is expected to help realize the company’s target of selling 26 million flat-screen TVs globally in 2009.

Samsung said it would manufacture approximately 60,000 LED TVs and would gradually expand the capacity in 2010. The company hopes to achieve a turnover of $2 billion this year in India and plans to launch new products like plasma TVs and mobile handsets.

The currently available LED 6 and 7 series are priced Rs1,25,000~Rs1,45,000 and Rs1,40,000~Rs1,80,000 respectively. The 8 series which will be available late this month is priced at Rs3,50,000.
