Indian officials from two government agencies have cautioned consumers purchasing LED bulbs from local manufacturers to pay special attention to whether the bulbs have the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) label to ensure the bulbs meet photo biological standards and do not cause harm to vision, reported Economic Times.
They addressed the issue at a press conference organized on at BRICS Working Group to meet energy saving and energy efficiency demands.
"Locally-sourced LED bulbs could be harmful to the eye. Hence, only BIS marked and those that passed the photo biological test should be purchased and used," they said.
The EESL is selling 0W LED bulbs for INR 85 (US $1.26) each to domestic consumers.
