LG Targets to Manufacture 55 inch OLED LCD TV

Reportedly, LG has started to manufacture its 8th generation OLED TV fab in Paju, South Korea, expecting to replace all LED backlights with OLED equivalents in LCD TVs.

This latest OLED panel handles 400 ppi, providing superior contrast and brightness compared to LED-LCD equivalents.

Besides, LG has successfully managed to cut 2,200x2,500mm glass substrates in two to produce 2,200x1,250mm units and increase monthly production capacity to 24,000 substrates.

At present, it is producing 55in TV panels in the 8th gen OLED format but plan to include 31in versions in their range.

Mass production is scheduled for the end of 2011.
