Philips Sponsors Yokohama Marine Tower "Stardust Illumination"

Philips Electronics Japan announced that the company will sponsor the “Stardust Illumination” lighting event, which starts Dec.1 at the Yokohama Marine Tower (Yokohama City, Kanagawa prefecture).

The “Stardust Illumination” lighting event is a special illumination of the Marine Tower for the holiday season, which runs Dec. 1 - Jan. 31, 2010. The Marine Tower is an architectural icon for Yokohama City that made its reopening debut May 23 as part of the 150th anniversary of the port opening of Yokohama.

Philips’ full color change and high-output LED floodlight “ColorReach Powercore” will add color and dream-like glamour to the reinvigorated Yokohama symbol at night. In addition to the normal ColorReach Powercore installation, this year’s illumination will feature gleaming stars falling from the top of the tower through Philips LED fixtures on the frames. Philips’ “iColor Flex SLX” will be used for this LED installation. Its LED-based strand form generates unique and dynamic installations without the constraints of fixture shape or space. Each node can be independently controlled for desired lighting effects.

The Tower will be lit nightly from 5 p.m. – 12 a.m. The LED floodlighting, on the other hand, will be installed after the event and is planned to impress visitors through lighting programs designed for the upcoming seasonal and special events.
