Nan Ya Photonics Inc. recently has unveiled a demo room for its LED lighting products in the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) headquarters building in Taipei, and is paving the way for mechanized assembly lines of LED light bulbs in June, 2012.

The automated lines are jointly developed by automation-equipment suppliers, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Epistar and Nan Ya. It’s considered to be Taiwan’s first for LED light bulb production, and is projected to turn out a total of 400,000-500,000 bulbs a month at full capacity.

According to Nan Ya President B.J. Wu, at present, 7W LED replacements for incandescent bulbs are retailed above NT$400 (US$13.3 at US$1: NT$30). And   the automated production lines will carry out the company’s goal of bringing down retail prices of its 7W bulbs to below US$10 per unit by the end of 2012.

Nan Ya Chairman W.C. Wang, the former chairman from Formosa Petrochemical Corp., said the group decided to branch out into the LED sector on account of the outstanding energy-saving performance and zero mercury of the lamps.
