On March 12, U.S. smart glasses company Vuzix announced that Xander™, a company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, has placed an order for Vuzix Shield™ smart glasses. This marks the largest additional order Vuzix has received to date.
The order aims to meet the growing market demand for the Xander Glasses™ solution, which, along with its supporting software, provides real-time captions to help individuals with hearing impairments communicate more easily.
It is reported that the Xander Glasses product utilizes Vuzix Shield smart glasses and is ready to use right out of the box. Users simply need to press a button and wear the glasses to see real-time captions within their field of view, enabling seamless communication for those with hearing impairments.
Xander Glasses operate 100% independently with a simple, streamlined design and an easy on/off function. They do not require a smartphone or cloud connection, ensuring reliability and privacy security, making them suitable for home, workplace, and public environments.
Vuzix stated that hearing loss is affecting an increasing number of people worldwide, including veterans, individuals exposed to noisy environments for extended periods, and the elderly.
By integrating Vuzix Shield smart glasses with Xander’s powerful embedded speech-captioning software, the Xander Glasses product meets the needs of those with hearing impairments. Vuzix will continue to support Xander in expanding its hearing assistance solutions.
According to available information, Vuzix Shield smart glasses feature a Micro LED display with monochrome green display technology, offering peak brightness of up to 2 million nits and a contrast ratio of 100,000:1. The waveguide optical system adopts an advanced 3D binocular design, with a horizontal field of view of 30°, a single-eye resolution of 1268×720, and a refresh rate of up to 60Hz.
Notably, Vuzix recently announced its 2024 financial results. During the reporting period, Vuzix generated revenue of $5.755 million, representing a 52% year-over-year decline. The revenue drop was primarily due to decreased sales of M400 smart glasses. Additionally, compared to 2023, the company’s losses further expanded. Looking ahead to 2025, Vuzix plans to promote long-term customer collaborations, expand ODM/OEM partnerships, and explore business opportunities in the defense sector.
