Micro LED and OLED Continue to Expand in the Smart Glasses Market
From the CES 2025 show at the beginning of the year to MWC 2025, the smart glasses market has been flourishing. With the boost from AI technologies, various smart glasses are being launched frequently, offering consumers a wider range of electronics choices.

Smart glasses are experiencing a second wave of growth, with the continuous upgrade of hardware technology serving as a key catalyst. In particular, recent breakthroughs in Micro LED and Micro OLED display technologies—including improved brightness limits, emission efficiency, full-color performance, and reduced optical engine size—are fueling hope for the realization of lightweight, high-definition smart glasses products.

At a recent Next-Gen Display Seminar organized by TrendForce, its analysts noted that Micro LED and Micro OLED will continue to be key technologies in the near-eye display sector.

In terms of market trends, while VR and MR devices are pursuing higher resolution and a slimmer profile, they face the dual challenges of cost and ecosystem development. According to TrendForce’s report “2024 Near-Eye Display Market Trends and Technology Analysis”, although global VR and MR shipments are expected to reach 7.2 million units in 2024, with the maturation of OLEDoS technology and supply chain optimization, shipments could hit 40 million units by 2030, with OLEDoS technology accounting for 27% of the market.

AR devices are being empowered through AI to offer multiple interaction methods including voice, gesture, and eye tracking, leading to continuously expanding applications. TrendForce estimates that AR device shipments will reach 25.5 million units by 2030, with LEDoS technology—thanks to its advantages in brightness and miniaturization—capturing a significant share in the AR market.
