[News] Samsung Reportedly Plans Big September Reveal: Tri-Fold Phone, XR Headset, AI Smart Glasses

News Source:

According to PCMag, citing ZDNet, sources say Samsung may unveil a tri-fold smartphone, the Project Moohan XR headset, and AI smart glasses at an Unpacked event in South Korea, possibly on September 29.

Rumors of a tri-fold phone, and the Project Moohan headset, developed with Google and Qualcomm, have circulated for some time. But ZDNet notes the bigger surprise may be Samsung’s entry into the smart-glasses market, positioning it against Meta’s Ray-Ban line. ZDNet reports the device is rumored to carry the codename “Project Haeanm,” meaning seaside or coast in Korean. Sources say it will be audio-only smart glasses, powered by Qualcomm’s AR1 chip for AI wearables and expected to run on Android XR.

The Tri-Fold Phone
PCMag notes that in July Samsung confirmed it was developing a trifold phone with plans for release before the end of the year. Citing SamMobile, the report adds that the device could feature a 6.5-inch cover display and a 10-inch foldable screen, giving it the look of a full tablet when opened. It is also rumored to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

According to TrendForce, Samsung currently leads the foldable segment. However, growing competition from other brands is eroding Samsung’s dominance, with its global market share expected to drop from 45.2% in 2024 to 35.4% in 2025.

XR-Device
As noted by South Korean outlet NewsPim, sources say Samsung is finalizing preparations for “Project Moohan” (meaning “infinity” in Korean), its first device to feature the “Android XR” platform developed with Google. The product is designed to address key XR challenges such as comfort, limited content, battery life, and performance, and will be powered by Qualcomm’s “XR2+ Gen 2” chipset manufactured on Samsung Foundry’s 4nm process. Samsung’s headset is expected to debut at around $2,000, nearly $1,500 less than Apple’s Vision Pro, according to PCMag.
