[News] Samsung Electronics Rumored to Adjust Micro LED TV Manufacturing Strategy

As per Korean media reports on May 5, Samsung Electronics is carrying out a phased adjustment of its Micro LED TV manufacturing business, with a stronger focus on balancing profitability and product popularity. As Micro LED technology still involves complex production processes and high manufacturing costs, the company is optimizing its product roadmap in response to market conditions and operational efficiency considerations.

Industry observers in South Korea generally believe that the adjustment by Samsung’s Visual Display (VD) division signals a strategic shift from ultra-premium customized products toward display technologies with greater scalability potential. During previous internal business evaluations, the Micro LED TV segment had also reportedly been identified as a part requiring continued optimization.

Meanwhile, Samsung has been exploring the commercialization of Micro RGB technology since last year, applying RGB Micro LED chips as a backlight solution for LCD TVs to create a new product category known as Micro RGB TVs. Industry analysts believe this approach could help lower costs while expanding into a broader consumer market, providing new support for the company’s product restructuring efforts.

A display industry expert in South Korea noted that, in the near term, Samsung is expected to maintain its technological investment in Micro LED TVs. Over the longer term, however, factors such as production costs and market adoption rates may drive the company to allocate more resources toward application areas with stronger scalability advantages, including emerging display segments such as wearable devices and AR/VR terminals.

Samsung unveiled the world’s first 130-inch Micro RGB smart display, the R95H, at CES 2026. In April this year, the company further expanded its 2026 Micro RGB TV lineup with the R95H and R85H series, covering sizes ranging from 55 inches to 115 inches.

In addition, media outlets reported that Samsung plans to launch an entry-level AI smart glasses product in 2026, featuring a lightweight design of approximately 50 grams and without a Micro LED display module. A more advanced AR glasses version, codenamed Haean, is expected to incorporate a Micro LED display to deliver enhanced visual capabilities. However, the product is not anticipated to debut until 2027 at the earliest, targeting high-end AR application scenarios.
